Stop Hunger NOW! 8/09/15 (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
Join volunteers from multiple churches at the Stop Hunger Now packing eventat the Aaron Jones Family Interactive Center located at 1415 Skip Avenue in Pascagoula.
Stop Hunger Now gets food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable people, and works to end global hunger in our lifetime. Established in 1998, they have provided over 200 million meals in 65 countries.
In three hours, one Sunday afternoon in May 2014, 150 volunteers came together and packed 46,000 meals in two hours. People from eight churches (including our own) representing five different Christian denominations worked side by side to accomplish this amazing work. At Stop Hunger Now events such as this, people ages five to 95 find something they can do to help. Volunteers set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck.
The goal is to not only expand the volunteer participation, but also use this event to raise money and awareness for the local organizations who serve the hungry right here in the community. Another goal is to raise $35,000. $29,000 of this would go to pay for the 100,000 meals that will be packed at the event. The other 15 percent or $6,000 will be distributed directly to the food banks presently serving the hungry within the city limits of Moss Point and Pascagoula.
